The Cympad Story

Whilst working with various sound engineers on live performances noticed Reto Hirschi, drummer and developer of Cympad, some time ago, that the sound level of the cymbals was too high as compared to the other instruments.

It is a known fact, that at live concerts, drummers quite often wear earplugs or find themselves banished behind a Plexiglas wall. Both solutions are not satisfactory: Earplugs modify the sound frequencies and the Plexiglas wall has a mirror effect that disrupts your relationship with the audience.

That's when Reto had the idea of replacing the lower cymbal felt with a larger diameter ring; He swapped the obsolete piece of felt for cellular foam, which made the whole thing look more modern. He called this ring: the Cympad.

Reto Hirschi founded Cympad in January 2005
